One Bed at a Time: Anne’s 25-Year Legacy

Earlier this month, we celebrated a very special milestone: Anne Marshall’s 25th anniversary as Housekeeper at The Gateway.

As one of our longest employees, Anne has consistently brought care and compassion to one of the most foundational parts of our services—creating a clean, welcoming space for people experiencing homelessness.

Over the years, she has made more than 500,000 beds, each one with care and intention.

But it’s not just the number that’s impressive, it’s the way she’s consistently shown up. It’s the way Anne embodies our mission and displays this month’s missional themes of dignity and respect in her work. As she folds sheets and smooths out wrinkles, she ensures every space feels clean and ready.

For someone arriving at the shelter after a hard day—or a hard year—that kind of care matters.
It says: you’re worth it.

Dignity and respect aren’t always about big moments. Often, they are truly shown and felt in the details.

Anne has spent 25 years making sure those details aren’t missed. She’s done her work with consistency, kindness, and quiet pride—and that’s shaped the heart of The Gateway more than words can say.

Congratulations, Anne! Thank you for everything you’ve given to The Gateway and its residents, and for showing us what it means to be “the hand of God in the heart of the city.”

Prayer

In every linen washed, you are there.
In every sheet folded, you are there.
In every bed made, you are there.
In every space cleaned, you are there.
You are there, may we see you in our everyday.
You are there, may we embody you in every action.
You are there, may we never miss you.

Amen
