Internal Peace

I hope most of you were able to join in last week for some of the THHS Self Care week activities and the Staff Appreciation Party on Friday. It was truly a great week.

It also fit so well with our monthly theme of peace. Caring for ourselves and finding internal peace can help us to prepare and withstand tough times, and promote peace with others.

During self care week I was reminded of one of my favourite verses – Matthew 11:28-30.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Jesus invites us to draw close to him. The invitation isn’t exclusive, it’s for everyone, it says ‘ALL who are weary and burdened.’

And then he promises rest.

Then in verse 29, He says, let’s do this thing together, I’ll show you how it’s done. I’ll do it with you, yoked together, sharing the load.

And again promises rest – this time a deep rest, rest for the soul.

Jesus reminds us that He provides us internal peace.  A deep peace for our souls. Available to everyone, and all with Him by our side.

When Dion spoke at the Staff Appreciation Party, he reminded us to breathe in peace, and breathe out anxiety and stress. This is a helpful reminder as we go about our day. We can take in God’s peace at any moment in our day! We can accept the invitation Jesus gives in Matthew 28 anywhere and receive His promise of peace.

Breathe in peace.
Breathe out stress.
Breathe in peace.
Breathe out anxiety.

So, as we go about this week, let’s be encouraged by the peace Jesus promises us, and as needed let’s breathe in peace, and breathe out stress as we strive to be “The Hand of God in the Heart of the City.”

Peace,
Erin

Prayer

Loving God,

Please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart.

My soul is like a turbulent sea.

I can’t seem to find my balance so I stumble and worry constantly.

Give me the strength and clarity of mind to find my purpose and walk the path you’ve laid out for me.

I trust your Love God, and know that you will heal this stress.

Just as the sun rises each day against the dark of night.

Please bring me clarity with the light of God.

In your name I pray,

Amen.
