Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
A friend of mine recently posted the following lyric from O Holy Night – “A Thrill of Hope the Weary World Rejoices”.
Weary feels like the exact right word to describe how I feel as we come to the end of 2021 and I know that each of you can relate to this in your own way. This pandemic has continued far longer than any of us could have imagined.
It’s helpful for me, personally, to pause and reflect on that first Christmas and to recognize that Jesus was also born into a “weary world” with circumstances that were less than ideal.
Isaiah 9:2 says: “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. Those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.”
The simple, and yet profound, truth that I am holding on to this season is that there is always hope (light) despite our present suffering (darkness). I pray that you will all experience this “thrill of Hope” and are able to find some rest and peace this Christmas and into 2022.
Once again, Merry Christmas!

It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth
Long lay the world in sin and ever pining
‘Til he appeared and the soul felt its worth
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn’
Fall on your knees, o hear the angels’ voices
O night divine, o night when Christ was born
O night divine, o night, o night divine
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we
With all within, let us praise His holy name
Noel, Noel, o night, o night divine
Noel, noel
O night, o holy night
